FAQs - Special needs passengers

CP provides boarding and disembarking assistance to passengers with specific mobility needs through the Integrated Mobility Service (SIM).

SIM is provided on all trains and at all stations to passengers, unless they use a wheelchair or mobility scooter.

This service requires prior booking and is compulsory for anyone using a wheelchair or mobility scooter.

On the Alfa Pendular and Intercidades services, you must buy a ticket in advance with a seat reservation.

If for any reason it is not possible to provide the boarding or disembarking service, CP will refund the ticket price.

  • Alfa Pendular Service - has two seats per train for wheelchair users.
Boarding and disembarking is via a wheelchair-accessible lift from the platform to the train, which supports a maximum weight of 300kg.
It also has an adapted toilet.
  • Intercidades Service - allows customers to be transported in a manual wheelchair, as long as it can be locked.
The portable lifts at the stations will be used for boarding and disembarking.
Due to limited access to the seats, it will be necessary, after boarding, to transfer to the train's wheelchair and then to the seat. Your wheelchair will be kept locked during the journey.
  • Lisbon and Porto urban services allow travelling with a wheelchair.
Boarding takes place on a ramp approved for this purpose, which can support a weight of up to 300kg.
  • The Coimbra-Figueira da Foz urban service allows travelling with a wheelchair.
Boarding and disembarking is done with a lift approved for the purpose, which can support a weight of up to 350kg.
There is also an adapted toilet.
